MARBLE MOUNTAIN
LOCATION
ROUTE 431
WILMINGTON
TURN LEFT ON
ACCESS ROAD
TO THE ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES RESEARCH CENTER
Actually located off the Whiteface Memorial Highway, this was the location of
the first attempt at a ski area on the mountain. Designed on the northwest
exposure of Marble mountain, it could not hold the snow and was closed for
that reason. A t-bar ran to its summit achieving an 865 foot vertical drop.
Two rope tows served the beginners and one rope tow transferred skiers back to
the base lodge.
Note that with snowcat service, the potential vertical was 2865 feet.
