TAR YOUNG

LOCATED OFF Route 79 IN CAROLINE

With one dime collected from each admission to the roller skating rink, Cornell University bought and created this place to ski in 1947. There were two rope tows, one serving a novice area and ski jump. Skiing on 400 feet of vertical was offered on weekends, Tuesdays and Thursdays for a buck when weather permitted. This operation ended in 1959 following the passing of Tar Young.

That being said, a Dec. 1961 Ski Area Report states:
TAR YOUNG HILL—At Caroline near Slaterville, this Cornell University-operated site has 2 tows and is open to the public.
