AND
BETTER YET ...

Because of its proximity to New York City, more people skied what the brothers created. Visitors from Europe began to make the trek on the ski trains. They brought with them experience, demonstrating techniques new to the United States. This began the enrichment of the sport and the ideals of those new to skiing.

While learning to ski better, looking good became important to many people. The social "look" of skiing created a wonderful way to enjoy the winter season. The clothes worn, expressed the desire to be different. This aspect of the sport developed into a business in itself, built confidence and created a reason for return to the slopes.

The Ticket office was built around the tower erected for the
first tow. This increased the gathering of fashion and served as the base of operations for the ski area.

This social aspect was further enhanced and made to work for the ski area. The Phoenicia Ski Club, Inc. was created and through the efforts of its membership, a small lodge was built. Its location at the base of the main slope warmed the visitors and offered quick meals.
