THE
BEGINNING
OF
THE
END

During the summer of 1965, Carroll passed away while working on the trails. He was 71 years old at the time. The last trail addition to the ski area was finished in October of that year.

After the close of the short-lived Andes Ski Center, their Borvig double chairlift became available for purchase. In hopes of a reinstall at Simpson's, Gus and son Jay traveled to Andes for a look. This chairlift was one of the earliest manufactured by the company. Because of the design, it had been known to have counterweight problems which caused the cable to "bounce" on the sheaves. After realizing there was no practical solution to this problem, their visions of this lift at the ski area soon past.
