THE YEARS GO BY ...
CHANGES ARE MADE

The changes occurred in steps. Although the bend remained, the engine was moved to the top of the tow. A simple weight of concrete on a pulley provided the necessary tension for the sheaves. The tension on the downside rope no longer created problems.

A smaller

and lighter

three strand rope could now be used.

The improved mechanism which consisted of a car engine and transmission
coupled through a Link Belt chain drive transferred power to the sheaves.
