To best deal with the problems surrounding the bend in the tow , the lines were separated.

This created a new opportunity, improving what already existed. On the lower section, dual tows were created, increasing uphill capacity.

The bend was eliminated and a separate tow created.

The car engines, found not suitable for their application, were replaced. Stationary industrial engines completed the bigger and better plan.

A motor house was built to contain the two sheave and engine mechanisms.

As a result of the improvements made, word spread downstate, increasing skier visits. More and more people began riding the ski trains to enjoy "the new found fun". Finally, the original intent, regional prosperity, was realized. 

Ski trains, originating in Weehawken, New Jersey, transported skiers on the West Shore Railroad to Kingston, New York. From that point, with a change of engines, eager patrons traveled directly to the slope side. This method of arrival became so popular, on one morning, one thousand four hundred ninety six enthusiasts unloaded. One can only imagine the confusion associated with lodging in a small town such as Phoenicia!!!!
