After making observations of several locations, Ed Bunkoff purchases land in Mineral Springs, just off popular New York Route 7.

With good friend, Don Stuart, they begin work in the summer of 1938.

Powered by an International tractor, a 1200 foot rope stood ready to serve a 360 vertical foot slope graded to perfection.

WELL ALMOST

Although designed to be skied with as little as four inches of snow, Mother Nature said "no" through December 1938.

In January, the snow came and with it the skiing of Ed's creation. His specially developed "tow grippers", a device he previously introduced to the Bousquet operation in the Berkshires, were a major hit with the skiers who visited.

In these times, the Mohawk Valley was growing with commerce. On weekends, SNOWY ACRES was perfectly located to draw those in need of winter entertainment. Ed's map outlines how easy it was in the brochure he distributed.
